Kindy 500

For the past few years in Kindergarten the children have been invited to make a car out of a card board box.  I believe that Morgan's year was the first year our school did it.  Back then each student was assigned a certain state and you needed to decorate your car to represent that state.  Morgan had Texas so we put Long Horns on the front of her car and made it have big wheels because "everything is bigger in Texas", right?
Well this year is Owen's year, a few things have changed.  The kids are no longer assigned a state because sometimes kids didn't get the state they wanted and it caused problems...so kids/parents were given creative freedom.  Owen asked for "The Bat Mobile" at first I wondered how in the world we were going to do it.  So I searched Google Image and together Owen and I decided what he wanted on his car.  He choose the back fins and the side bat signs.  When we got to building it we decided to put little bat signs on the front and back, added headlights and the tail pipe.  We were all very happy with the outcome and he was so excited to parade it around the school.
After they parade around the school they learn all about America.  They have to drive their cars to all the different places were they learn about The Statue of Liberty, The Bald Eagle, The White House, The Liberty Bell, Mount Rushmore, The Flag, and Abraham Lincoln.  At each place they received something to remind them of what they learned.  Everyone had fun.  We can't wait for two more years when it's Reagan's turn!

I decided to put some pictures of Morgan with her car since I realized I never blogged about her Kindy 500.

  2. What a fun activity! Both those cars look great! Do you still have Morgan's car hanging around? I can just imagine Owen driving his Bat Mobile around the house....
