Fourth of July water bottle rockets

This Fourth of July we really didn't have any plans.  I knew I was going to have to babysit so that kind of limited our options as far as going somewhere.  Bruce and I wanted to do something fun for the kids but I couldn't think of anything but Bruce did!  He made a water bottle rocket launcher!  The kids all had so much fun getting wet and running after the bottle rockets!

First the kids would fill up the water bottle
Then attach it to the launcher
Blow some air into the bottle by using the air compressor and watch the bottle fly!

The kids had fun watching the bottle fly high in the air and then run after it and try to catch it.
After the kids played with it, it was the guys' turn, they tried to mod it to make it fly higher and further.  After all of their modifications the standard launcher actaully worked the best!
Owen decided when the guys were going to lauch that he might need a little more protection...

After all the babysitting kids got picked up we headed over to Heath and Vanessa's.  We had BBQ and lit fireworks.  It was kind of nice because they live in a cul-de-sac and all their neighbors were lighing tons of really good aerials all around us.  It rained a little bit but it turned out being a really fun Fourth!
