As part of our Peterson Family Reunion we always go up to Payson Lakes. Unfortunately most everyone had other things that prevented them from coming. Emily, Kim and fam and my family were the only ones that made it up there! We still had fun. It was good that we were the ones in charge of the food for that activity or we probably would have starved!
It was a beautiful day. It looked like we might get rain but it never did but we appreciated the nice cloud cover. The men went fishing. The kids went swimming and me and my sisters hung out and chatted. It was really nice to just sit and relax!
We decided to go and see how the fishing was going. On the way over we saw a cute little family of ducks. They had no intention of swimming away so we could sit and watch them for quite a while.
We finally found Bruce. He was just laying back and relaxing. He was grateful for the company though.
He and Bailey had a pretty good morning but now that it was getting warmer the fishing was starting to slow down. Owen was still very proud to show off the fish.
On the way back to the canopy, Bailey really wanted to catch a little fishy, but they were much too fast for her and she gave up!
When we got back the kids got back into the water. The water was pretty chilly but once the kids got in they didn't notice it!
After a while everyone else made their way back over to the fishing spot while I stayed under the canopy with a sleeping Oakley. I knew the day was coming to an end and that they were going to start cleaning up the fishing stuff so the kids could do the annual jump off the dock. I was sitting there and I see Bruce and Brent with a kid on the wagon coming back to camp. I figured that Brent needed to change into his swim trunks because he usually is in the water when the kids jump off the dock. Then I think that they are kind of walking fast and I realize that it's a big kid on the wagon and not a little kid, which struck me as odd. When they got closer I realized that it was Bailey and she was hurt.
All day long we had watched kids jump off a rope swing into the water. As the guys were cleaning up the kids asked Emily and Kim if they could go off the rope swing. There was no reason that they couldn't so they let them. Bailey was first. I don't know if she let go too soon or too late but she ended up on a rock and cut up her leg.
Bruce and I took Bailey, Reagan and Oakley down the canyon, leaving the mess for everyone else to clean up, so get Bailey stitched up.
While we were gone and everyone was cleaning up they still had plans to jump off the dock once all the cleaning was done. Then Porter went missing. They were running around the lake screaming his name and looking for a little boy in the lake with the green arm floaty things that he was wearing. Finally they found him, right where our canopy was. They ended up not jumping off the dock. Which is good, for some reason I have a feeling that the bad things happened, because something worse might have happened jumping off the dock...
That picture of the duck family is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI really wish we could have worked it out to spend the day at Payson Lakes!
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful that nothing worse happened, and that all is well with Bailey and Porter! What a crazy end to the day!!
